Skyway Offers Smooth Commute as EDSA Reconstruction Looms
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – With the reconstruction of EDSA set to begin on June 13, 2025, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have suggested Skyway as a viable alternative route. GMA News recently conducted a test run along Skyway to assess its effectiveness. "We're using Skyway as an alternative because it's the suggested route," said Joseph Morong, the GMA News reporter who conducted the test drive. The video shows the reporter's journey, emphasizing smooth traffic flow on the Skyway. The journey illustrates the ease of using Skyway as an alternate route, especially for those traveling to and from the airport. Talks are underway between the DOTr and San Miguel Corporation, which runs Skyway, to potentially waive toll fees during July or August, covering the stretch from Buendia to Balintawak. This initiative aims to ease the burden on commuters during the EDSA reconstruction. The successful test run demonstrates that Skyway is a feasible solution, offering a smoother commute during the roadworks.
