Philippines on High Alert: PAGASA Warns of Increased Rainfall and Potential Cyclones
The Philippines braces for increased rainfall as PAGASA predicts more frequent showers and potential cyclones. The state weather bureau, PAGASA, has issued a warning to residents across the archipelago to prepare for heavier-than-usual rainfall in the coming weeks. The increased rainfall is attributed to the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as Habagat, and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). "Mga Kapuso," began the GMA News presenter, "dahil opisyal na ngang pumasok ang tag-ulan, 'wag kalimutang dalhin palagi ang inyong payong at kapote kung lalabas ng bahay!" (Fellow Kapuso, now that the rainy season has officially begun, don't forget to always bring your umbrella and raincoat when you go out!). PAGASA forecasts a high chance of one or two cyclones forming within the Philippine Area of Responsibility during June. These cyclones could potentially make landfall in Southern Luzon or the Visayas, or alternatively, curve away from the country. Regardless of landfall, the associated rainfall will significantly increase. By Wednesday afternoon, widespread rain is expected across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The timely warning from PAGASA allows residents to prepare and mitigate potential risks associated with heavy rainfall, ensuring community safety and resilience during the rainy season.
