Marcos Orders Demolition of Controversial 'Mt. Kamuning' Footbridge
The demolition of the controversial "Mt. Kamuning" footbridge in Quezon City, Philippines, has been ordered by President Bongbong Marcos. The decision follows concerns about the footbridge's safety, particularly its height, which is equivalent to four or five stories. In an interview with GMA Integrated News, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon stated, "It's not safe." He explained that the ground vibrations from the nearby traffic are causing the footbridge to shake, posing a risk to pedestrians. The DOTr plans to replace the structure with a new design that includes an elevator to improve accessibility for PWDs and seniors. The project is expected to begin this year. The original footbridge, built in 2018 by the MMDA at a cost of 10 million pesos, was intended to reduce accidents and crime in the area. The new footbridge will be a significant improvement for the community.
