Philippines Deport 89 Foreign Nationals in Crackdown on Scam Hubs
The Philippines recently deported 89 foreign nationals to Vietnam and South Korea following arrests in operations against scam hubs and illegal offshore gaming. This action, part of President Bongbong Marcos' directive to accelerate deportations, aims to alleviate overcrowding in Philippine detention facilities. "This is part of the decongestion efforts," stated Usec. Gilbert Cruz, Executive Director of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), in a recent interview. The PAOCC collaborated with the Department of Justice, National Bureau of Investigation, and other agencies. Approximately 800 individuals remain in detention awaiting deportation, highlighting the ongoing challenge of combating illegal activities. The swift action demonstrates the government's commitment to addressing these issues.
