Mindanao Floods as New Low Pressure Area Threatens Philippines
Heavy Flooding in Mindanao as Low Pressure Area Approaches the Philippines Mindanao, Philippines – June 5, 2025, saw significant flooding in parts of the region, particularly in Bansalan, Davao del Sur. This event coincides with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)'s report of a new low pressure area (LPA) forming near the country. The LPA, currently 1120 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao, has the potential to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within 24 hours. "Mga Kapuso, may bagong low pressure area na namataan malapit sa bansa. Pero bago pa man ‘yan mabuo, may mga pagbaha nang naranasan sa ilang bahagi ng Mindanao," reported a GMA News anchor in the video. The video shows dramatic footage of rapidly flowing, muddy floodwaters, indicating the severity of the situation. The intense rainfall is attributed to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which has been affecting Davao del Sur in recent days. PAGASA forecasts widespread rain across the Philippines, particularly in the afternoon. Central and Southern Luzon, the Bicol Region, and Visayas are also expected to experience heavy downpours. While the immediate concern is the flooding, PAGASA also warns of the potential for the LPA to strengthen into a tropical storm, possibly named "Auring", in the coming days. Residents are urged to stay informed of weather updates and take necessary precautions.
