P6 Billion Shabu Bust: Philippines Uncovers Massive Drug Smuggling Operation
Authorities in the Philippines have made a significant drug bust, discovering over 6 billion pesos (approximately $109 million USD) worth of suspected shabu. The drugs were found floating in the waters off the coast of Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines. This massive discovery is believed to be linked to the Golden Triangle, a notorious drug production region spanning parts of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand. The PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) spokesperson, Atty. Joseph Frederick Calulut, stated, "We are still scouring the area to see if there is anything left." In addition to the floating shabu, authorities found more drugs in a package that had arrived from the United States. The PDEA is investigating the involvement of a large transnational drug syndicate. The sheer scale of this seizure highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the Philippines in combating the illegal drug trade. The discovery serves as a reminder of the international nature of drug trafficking and the need for increased cooperation between countries to effectively disrupt these criminal networks.
