"Where did you find out about this?": San Francisco couple signs up as DoorDash…
"I can’t believe I haven’t heard anyone talk about this."
San Francisco, CA A recent viral social media post has shed light on an unconventional method for accumulating airline miles, sparking discussion about the intersection of travel hacks and the gig economy. Madison Waller, known as GoingGoneMadd on social media, shared her experience delivering for DoorDash in San Francisco to earn 5,000 American Airlines miles through a promotional offer. Waller, a self-proclaimed avid traveler, explained that the promotion allowed participants to earn a significant number of elite miles by completing just one DoorDash delivery. "We both are very big travelers and American Airlines and DoorDash is doing a promotion where if you do one DoorDash, you get 5,000 miles," Waller stated in her video. She clarified that these were not just regular miles but "elite miles," making the offer particularly attractive. Her experience involved nearly two hours of dashing, during which she and her boyfriend completed multiple deliveries across San Francisco neighborhoods like Fillmore and North Beach. The couple reported earning approximately $48.25 during their stint. Waller also highlighted a feature within the DoorDash app that alerts drivers to "big tippers," noting, "It will say like, 'Ooh, historically Bruce is a big tipper.'" The video also touched upon the intricacies of DoorDash earnings in San Francisco, where local regulations ensure a minimum wage for drivers. Waller noted that their earnings of around $47 did not fully meet the city's minimum wage for the time spent, leading DoorDash to adjust their pay. This prompted her to encourage customers to "tip your drivers," indirectly addressing the reliance on tips within the gig economy. The unique approach to earning travel rewards has garnered significant attention, prompting both interest in the hack and broader conversations about driver compensation and customer interactions in the delivery service industry.
