Chesterfield County, VA – In a unique initiative aimed at supporting addiction recovery, three inmates from Chesterfield County Jail have shared their personalized version of the Serenity Prayer, incorporating Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) tapping. The video, featuring Austin, Ernest, and Josh, highlights the HARP (Helping Addicts Recovery Progressively) program. Austin, leading the demonstration, introduces himself and his fellow participants, stating, "I'm coming to you live from Chesterfield County Jail, the HARP program with my brother Ernest and my brother Josh." He explains that they will be "tapping on our version of the Serenity Prayer." The inmates guide viewers through a series of tapping points on the body, including the side of the hand, eyebrow, side of the eye, under eye, under nose, under lip, collarbone, under arm, and top of the head. Each tapping point is accompanied by a line from their adapted Serenity Prayer, focusing on themes of acceptance, courage, wisdom, and the daily commitment to recovery. For instance, while tapping the side of the hand, they recite, "God grant me the Serenity." Tapping the eyebrow, they add, "to accept the things I cannot change." Austin encourages anyone in recovery or struggling with addiction to "just give it a try and tap with us." The video concludes with the powerful affirmation, "so work to live, believe that," as they tap the top of their heads. This demonstration offers a glimpse into the therapeutic activities within the jail's recovery program, providing a tangible tool for self-help and emotional regulation to a broader audience.
