US Immigration Bars Cuban-American Woman from Cuba Travel After Phone Search

Cuban-American Woman Faces Travel Ban to Cuba After US Immigration Interrogation Miami, FL – A Cuban woman, who identifies herself as Heidy Diaz Sosa, has publicly shared a distressing account of her recent return to the United States from Cuba, claiming she and her husband have been effectively banned from future travel to the island by U.S. immigration authorities. The incident, which occurred yesterday, involved a four-hour detention and an extensive search of their personal electronic devices, including phones, bank accounts, and private chats. Diaz Sosa, who holds a CU6 residency under the Cuban Adjustment Act and explicitly states she did not apply for asylum, recounted her experience in a video. "When I entered here yesterday, it was the worst, the worst, the worst," she stated, visibly emotional. She explained that she and her husband had traveled to Cuba for three days due to a family matter, with her husband visiting his sick father. According to Diaz Sosa, immigration officials confiscated their phones and demanded passwords, subsequently accessing their bank accounts, photo galleries, and family chats. She quoted the officials as telling her, "You came here for a better life. So, you have no business in Cuba, even if you have family." She was explicitly informed that both she and her husband were entered into a system preventing their re-entry to Cuba. "First and last time," she quoted the officials as saying regarding her trip. The incident has sparked concern among the Cuban-American community regarding the implications for those with similar residency status who wish to visit family in Cuba. Diaz Sosa concluded her message with a strong warning: "My advice is that if you are going to Cuba, wait. I am not trying to scare you, but it happened to me yesterday, and I had a bad time. They put me in the system, my husband and me, that we cannot enter Cuba anymore." She expressed gratitude for being back in the U.S. but also sadness over not being able to visit her mother and family in Cuba.
