Dubrovnik's New Private Viewpoint: A 3-Euro Panorama Sparks Local Debate
DUBROVNIK, Croatia – A new private viewpoint on Srđ hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Dubrovnik, has sparked discussion among locals and visitors alike. Operated by the Paskojević couple, the viewpoint charges a 3-euro fee for access, a move that has become a hot topic in the city. Ira Paskojević, one of the owners, explained the initiative, stating, "This is, so to speak, a polygon for photography." She added that for years, they observed people climbing over fences and rocks to take photos, which inspired the creation of a safer, organized space. The site currently features a 'photo booth' that provides instant pictures, with future plans to introduce telescopes and VR simulators to enhance the visitor experience. Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković commented on the situation, emphasizing, "I see no reason for this, but it is private land and private economic activity. I repeat, people have various ideas. Some set up cameras, photo points... It is exclusively a matter of a private person, that is, a private entrepreneurial initiative." Despite some local debate, tourists appear largely pleased with the new offering. A visitor from the Republic of South Africa remarked, "I think this is absolutely wonderful! You get a really good picture of the entire Royal Guard, so it's absolutely amazing. I think the photos are magical." A guest from China also shared her perspective, stating, "I think this is a normal price for a viewpoint. It's not too expensive. If you want to take photos, this price is normal." It is important to note that access to the viewpoint is free for all children, veterans, and residents of Dubrovnik and surrounding municipalities. For those outside these categories, the 3-euro fee applies.
