Budapest, Hungary – The Hungarian Police have released a public service announcement highlighting the critical importance of using the 112 emergency line responsibly. The warning comes in response to incidents of non-emergency calls, including a recent prank where a caller inquired if firefighters would fill their swimming pool. The video, shared by the official Hungarian Police channel, features an audio recording of a genuine emergency call to the 112 dispatch center. In the recording, an operator answers, "Emergency Call Center, good day, how can I help?" The caller then requests to be connected to the firefighters, prompting the operator to ask, "What happened?" The caller's unexpected response, "Nothing, I just want to ask if they fill up pools," underscores the type of inappropriate calls that divert essential resources.Authorities emphasize that emergency lines are exclusively for genuine emergencies requiring immediate assistance from police, fire, or ambulance services. Misusing these lines can delay responses to real crises, potentially endangering lives. The Hungarian Police urge citizens to only dial 112 in life-threatening situations or when immediate intervention is required.
