Atlanta Clinic Faces Scrutiny After Disabled Patient Found Locked Inside for Seven Hours

Atlanta, GA – A shocking incident at a Hanger Clinic in Buckhead has left a disabled woman, Anquita Macken, traumatized after she was reportedly left locked inside the facility for nearly seven hours after closing. Macken, who is wheelchair-bound and battles Multiple Sclerosis, had attended a 2 PM appointment on Thursday to be fitted for braces. According to Ms. Macken, she fell asleep on an exam table during her visit. When she awoke, she found the clinic quiet and empty. "I was like, 'Hello, hello, nurse, doctor, is anyone in there?'" she recounted. To her dismay, no one answered. Her phone was dead, leaving her unable to call for help. In a desperate attempt to reach a power outlet, she had to roll off the exam table, hitting her head in the process, and then crawl across the floor to plug in her phone. After finally charging her phone, Ms. Macken called 911 and her daughter multiple times. It was not until nearly 9 PM, approximately seven hours after her appointment, that Atlanta Police, Fire, and Grady EMS arrived at the scene. They found Ms. Macken on the floor inside the clinic. Ms. Macken's daughter expressed profound shock and anger over the incident. "Why you guys, you know, just left her in a room unattended? She's disabled," she stated. "Who locks up the building? No one walks around to, you know, check each room?" A spokesperson for Hanger Clinic declined to comment on the incident, citing HIPAA privacy laws. However, the event has raised serious questions about patient safety protocols and the responsibility of medical facilities, particularly when serving vulnerable individuals.
