Warsaw, Poland – A new proposal by the Ministry of Education to allow individuals without full pedagogical qualifications to work as teachers in kindergartens, set to take effect on July 1, 2025, has drawn strong criticism from educators. Dawid Kołodziejczyk, an education expert, voiced his concerns in a recent video, calling the proposed changes "total absurdity." According to Kołodziejczyk, the new regulations would permit the employment of individuals lacking a pedagogical degree, provided they have "appropriate preparation" and the consent of an education curator. This move, he argues, undermines the value of extensive university education for teachers. "This degrades individuals who have spent five years studying preschool and early school education," Kołodziejczyk stated in his video. He further highlighted that teachers previously had the option to pursue postgraduate studies to re-qualify for different specializations, such as preschool education, but these pathways have now been blocked. "Teachers want to learn, they want to develop, they want to work. It's the system that blocks them, and that is absurd," he added. The proposed changes raise questions about the future employment terms for these newly hired individuals, including their contracts, advancement opportunities, and weekly hours. Critics fear that directors might increasingly opt to hire less qualified, and potentially cheaper, staff over fully qualified teachers, leading to a decline in educational standards and job insecurity for experienced professionals.
