Malaysia's Prison Program Aims to Boost Local Workforce and Reduce Recidivism
KUALA LUMPUR – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today highlighted the significant impact of the Malaysian Prison Department’s Corporate Smart Internship (CSI) program. Speaking at an event, the minister stated that the initiative serves a dual purpose: providing essential skills training to prospective workers and simultaneously decreasing the nation's dependency on foreign labor. “Sowing one seed, reaping two harvests,” he remarked, underscoring the program’s multifaceted benefits for both individuals and the economy. Datuk Seri Saifuddin also called upon the community to actively support the CSI program, emphasizing that the involvement of families, friends, and local communities is crucial in efforts to reduce recidivism rates and foster successful reintegration of former inmates into society.
