Victoria Celebrates 86 Level Crossing Removals, Enhancing Safety and Commute Times
Melbourne, Victoria – Premier Jacinta Allan announced today that 86 dangerous and congested level crossings have been successfully removed across Victoria, significantly improving safety and reducing travel times for commuters. The ambitious infrastructure project has seen major upgrades in key areas, including Pakenham, Parkdale, Mentone, Beaconsfield, Ringwood East, Croydon, and Diggers Rest. Among the notable achievements, the Pakenham line has seen three crossings removed, along with a two-kilometer extension of the train line and the construction of the brand-new East Pakenham Station. Other crucial removals include Parkers Road in Parkdale, Warrigal Road in Mentone, Station Street in Beaconsfield, and Dublin Road, Ringwood East, and Coolstore Road in Croydon, which made the Lilydale line completely level crossing-free. Today also marked the opening of the new Golden Way Road bridge in Diggers Rest to the public, further enhancing connectivity and safety. Premier Allan emphasized that these removals are part of a broader commitment to modernize Victoria's transport network, ensuring safer and more efficient journeys for all Victorians.
