TikTok Creator Alleges Unauthorized Use of Videos for Ads, Demands Transparency
Los Angeles, CA – A lifestyle content creator, known as janey💘 (janeybonbon) on TikTok, has raised concerns about the platform's ad authorization feature, claiming her non-product videos are being used in advertisements without her direct consent or financial compensation. In a video uploaded on June 23, 2025, the creator expressed confusion over why TikTok's 'Ads Support' is utilizing her content, including videos about 'lazy girl dinner' and 'Milo Jellycats,' for promotional purposes. "I don't understand why some of the ads are running on my videos that don't have products linked to it," she stated in the video. She displayed notifications indicating that her videos were being used in ads, some authorized for a duration of 365 days. The creator emphasized that she is "not getting paid whatsoever" for these unauthorized uses of her content. She questioned the intent behind using her personal videos for advertising, stating, "What are you using my videos that don't have products linked for? Is it to promote your company?" The creator believes that along with ad authorization, creators should have the right to know who is using their videos and for what purpose, especially when no compensation is involved. This incident highlights a growing concern among content creators regarding platform policies and the commercial use of their intellectual property.
