Beachgoers Frustrated by Lack of Toilets Despite High Canopy Fees
Bucharest, Romania – Tourists visiting a popular beach destination are expressing frustration over the lack of accessible public toilets, despite paying significant fees for beach amenities. A recent report highlighted that beachgoers are charged 150 lei for canopies but are left without free or conveniently located sanitary facilities. One tourist, interviewed on the beach, stated, "Where else am I supposed to go? In the water." He further explained the impracticality of walking long distances to find a toilet, often located at hotels and requiring payment. "It takes half an hour to go and half an hour to come back. If nature calls, I won't make it," he added, indicating he uses the sea as an alternative.Another individual, speaking on behalf of beach operators, acknowledged the issue but pointed out the complexities of providing such facilities. "The toilet that is being built requires a longer construction period," he explained, noting that sand is not suitable for immediate construction. He emphasized that other facilities, such as free changing cabins and showers, are available. However, he maintained that a small fee for toilet use (around 1-2 lei) is reasonable for maintenance. The situation raises questions about the balance between luxury services and essential public infrastructure in tourist areas.
