50,000 Romanians Enjoy Black Sea Despite Dangerous Currents
Romanian Coastline Sees Tourist Boom Despite Dangerous Currents This past weekend, over 50,000 tourists flocked to Romania's Black Sea coast, taking advantage of the warm weather and off-season prices. However, the idyllic scene was marred by dangerous currents and strong waves, prompting several lifeguard rescues. "The rip current was quite strong," said Claudiu Popescu, a lifeguard in Eforie Nord. "We had to intervene earlier; two young people ventured too far and we had to get them out of the water." Despite the risks, many tourists expressed satisfaction with their experience, highlighting the pleasant temperatures and affordable prices. One tourist reported paying 70 lei for two omelets, demonstrating the relatively low costs. The most crowded resorts included Mamaia, Vama Veche, and Eforie Nord. While the weekend showcased the appeal of the Romanian coast, it also underscored the importance of beach safety and awareness of potential hazards.
