STRADBALLY, Co. Laois – The Electric Picnic festival, held recently in Stradbally, saw a significant community-led effort to promote recycling, with Killeshin GAA club partnering with Re-turn to collect empty beverage containers. Volunteers, easily identified by their high-visibility vests, were stationed at the Freetown entrance and moved throughout the festival grounds, engaging with attendees to gather cans and bottles. The initiative aimed to minimize waste and encourage responsible disposal among the thousands of festival-goers. Footage from the event shows numerous participants handing over their empty containers to the volunteers, who then collected them in large, clear bags. One volunteer stated, "It's great to see so many people getting involved and helping us keep the festival clean. Every can makes a difference." The collected recyclables were then transported for processing, highlighting a successful collaboration between a local sports club and a national recycling scheme. The effort was met with positive feedback from attendees, with many commending the volunteers for their hard work and the "brilliant idea" of the program.
