Viral Video Sparks Debate on Spain's Roundabout Rules and Driver Confusion

A recent viral video by content creator Kingbru has shed light on the persistent confusion surrounding roundabout rules in Spain, sparking a broader discussion on traffic regulations and driver behavior. In the video, Kingbru humorously, yet pointedly, critiques the common practice of misusing lanes within roundabouts, particularly the tendency for drivers to exit from the inner lanes, which is contrary to Spanish traffic law. "Because in this country, absolutely nobody knows how to properly navigate a roundabout!" Kingbru exclaims in his video, highlighting the widespread frustration. He recounts a personal anecdote of a near-collision, stating, "Just five minutes ago, a gentleman almost ran me over because he cut me off, because you cannot exit from the left lane! You have to exit from the right lane!" This incident, he argues, is a daily reality for many Spanish drivers. The content creator further elaborates on the official DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) guidelines, which stipulate that all exits from a roundabout, regardless of the intended exit, should be made from the outermost (right) lane. The inner lanes, he explains, are primarily for overtaking. "The rule here is clear: it's correct to do the entire roundabout, no matter which exit you take, from the right, exterior lane," he states. He then contrasts this with driving practices in France, where drivers are taught to use the right lane for the first or second exit and the left lane for subsequent exits, merging right when possible. Germany, he notes, often simplifies matters with single-lane roundabouts to avoid such complications. Kingbru's video resonates with many drivers who face similar challenges daily, bringing attention to a common source of traffic congestion and accidents. While presented with humor, the underlying message calls for greater adherence to traffic laws and a more consistent understanding of roundabout navigation.
