LOEWE's New Sustainable Fashion Line: Turning Orange Peels into Luxury Clothing LOEWE, the renowned luxury fashion house, has unveiled a groundbreaking new initiative: transforming discarded orange peels into high-quality clothing. This innovative approach to sustainability is highlighted in a recent video showcasing the entire process, from sourcing the peels from local juice producers in Catania, Italy, to the final product—a stylish and lightweight top. "That’s a lot of oranges," says the LOEWE video, emphasizing the sheer volume of orange peels produced annually. The video then demonstrates how Orange Fiber, a manufacturer in Catania, collects and processes these peels into cellulose. This cellulose is blended with certified wood pulp to create a spinnable fiber, which is then spun into yarn, knitted into fabric, and finished mechanically to ensure softness, breathability, and durability without harsh chemicals. The finished fabric is then transported to LOEWE ateliers, where it is cut and assembled into garments. The result is a luxurious, lightweight top made entirely from agri-waste orange peels, showcasing LOEWE's commitment to sustainable and innovative practices. This initiative highlights the potential for transforming waste products into high-value materials, setting a new standard in sustainable luxury fashion.
