
Lorry Driver to Face Charges in Fatal FRU Accident
Nine members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) tragically lost their lives in a devastating road accident on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampan, Teluk Intan, Perak. The accident involved a lorry and a truck carrying FRU personnel. The lorry driver, a 45-year-old man, is scheduled to be charged this morning at the Teluk Intan Magistrate's Court. According to Perak's Hilir District Police Chief, ACP Dr. Bakri Zainal Abidin, "The suspect will be charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a sentence of five to ten years imprisonment and a maximum fine of RM50,000, as well as a disqualification from holding a driving license for at least five years if found guilty." The accident occurred at 8:50 AM. The FRU members were returning to Ipoh after completing their duties for the Thaipusam celebrations. Nine officers died, while nine others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital and Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh. This tragic event underscores the importance of road safety and the risks faced by emergency personnel.
