
Smuggler Dies in Crash While Fleeing Authorities in Kelantan
A land smuggler died in a tragic accident in Tumpat, Kelantan, on May 28, 2025, after crashing his car while attempting to evade authorities. The 34-year-old man was transporting seven undocumented migrants from Myanmar when his Proton Perdana veered off the road and into a concrete ditch. "The incident occurred around 6:50 AM," said Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Khairi Shafiee, Tumpat District Police Chief. "The suspect died at 10:00 AM at the hospital due to chest injuries." The seven migrants, aged between 20 and 42, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment. Police are investigating under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 63 of the Immigration Act 1959.
