19 Arrested in Malaysia for Japan-Targeted Call Center Scam
Nineteen individuals were arrested in Malaysia for their alleged involvement in a sophisticated call center scam that targeted Japanese citizens. The suspects, who included 13 Japanese nationals, two Chinese nationals, and four Taiwanese nationals, were apprehended in separate raids in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Authorities seized a significant amount of evidence, including laptops, mobile phones, and even Japanese police uniforms, suggesting a well-organized operation. "The suspects were impersonating Japanese police officers to defraud their victims," stated a police official involved in the investigation. The coordinated effort resulted in the disruption of a major criminal enterprise and highlights the transnational nature of such scams. Three individuals have already been charged, with more charges expected to follow.
