
Police Bust Online Job Scam Syndicate in Batu Pahat, 15 Arrested
A recent police raid in Batu Pahat, Johor, has uncovered a major online job scam syndicate. Fifteen men, including one Malaysian citizen and fourteen foreign nationals, were arrested on Sunday, May 29th, 2025. The suspects, aged between 21 and 38, were apprehended at a bungalow that served as the syndicate's operational base. Police seized 14 laptops and 19 mobile phones, with an estimated value of RM30,000. According to Johor Police Chief Datuk Ayub Khan, "The syndicate had been operating since March, targeting victims in Russia and using AI technology to communicate with victims and offer non-existent jobs." The arrests highlight the growing threat of online job scams and the sophistication of criminal syndicates. The successful raid underscores the importance of continued efforts by law enforcement to combat this type of crime. The investigation is ongoing under sections 420 and 120B of the Penal Code.
