
Malaysian Tourist Dies in Aceh Scuba Diving Accident
Malaysian Tourist Drowns During Scuba Diving Trip in Aceh Sabang, Aceh, Indonesia – A 33-year-old Malaysian tourist tragically lost his life during a scuba diving excursion in the waters off Iboih, Kota Sabang, Aceh, Indonesia on May 31st, 2025. The incident occurred around 9:30 AM local time. According to reports, the victim was diving with two friends, also Malaysian nationals, and a local dive instructor. At a depth of approximately 30 meters, the victim was caught in a strong underwater current. "He tried to follow the instructor's instructions, but he was struggling," stated one of the victim's friends, who wished to remain anonymous. The group managed to bring the victim to the surface, where they immediately initiated CPR. He was then rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to Kota Sabang Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Indonesian authorities are investigating the incident. The victim's friends, with the assistance of local authorities, are arranging for the repatriation of his body to Malaysia once the post-mortem examination is completed. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the inherent risks associated with scuba diving, even with experienced instructors.
