Two Siblings Drown at Johor Beach: A Tragic Accident in Mersing MERSING, JOHOR – A tragic incident unfolded Monday afternoon at Pulau Mentigi beach in Mersing, Johor, where two siblings, a 15-year-old girl and her 13-year-old brother, lost their lives in a drowning accident. The incident prompted a swift response from local authorities and community members. According to Commander Suhaizan Saad, director of the Mersing Maritime Zone, "We received information from the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Johor at 4:25 PM, prompting us to immediately deploy the boat Perkasa 44 to the scene." Local residents discovered the body of the older sibling, Nur Awatiff Udaima, around 4:30 PM. The search continued with the assistance of Perkasa 44 and island community members, who found the body of Ahmad Uwais Al-Karmi at 6:30 PM. Both bodies were transported to Mersing Hospital. Mersing District Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah said, "The case is classified as sudden death." The tragedy has deeply affected the community, highlighting the importance of water safety awareness. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of swimming in unsupervised areas. The community is rallying together to support the grieving family during this difficult time.
