NGO Files Police Report Against LGBT Gathering in Malaysia
Petaling Jaya, Selangor - A local non-governmental organization (NGO), Epanco Malaysia, has filed a police report against the youth wing of the Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) for their planned Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) gathering scheduled for June 21st in Petaling Jaya. Epanco Malaysia's president, Arif Fin Abu Bakar, stated, "We strongly reject this event as it goes against our culture and religious values." The police report alleges the gathering promotes activities considered contrary to Malaysian law and societal norms. The PSM youth wing has yet to respond publicly to the police report. The incident highlights the ongoing debate surrounding LGBT rights and social conservatism in Malaysia.
