RM143 Million Seized in Malaysian Highway Sukuk Scandal
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – June 7, 2025 – An investigation into the misappropriation of funds linked to highway construction sukuk projects in Lembah Klang is underway. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has reported significant challenges in advancing the case due to the hospitalization of a key figure, a Tan Sri who also holds a highway concession. "The Tan Sri's hospitalization has hampered our ability to obtain a statement," said a source close to the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity. This delay underscores the complexity of the case. Despite the setback, the MACC has made significant progress, seizing assets worth approximately RM143 million. These assets include a large collection of luxury watches and other items, suggesting a substantial scale of alleged financial wrongdoing. The investigation has expanded to include 45 witnesses. The MACC's determination to pursue this case, despite the obstacles, signals a commitment to transparency and accountability in public works projects. The successful seizure of assets offers a glimmer of hope that justice will be served.
