Massive Forest Fire Rages in Halkidiki, Greece; Firefighting Efforts Underway

HALKIDIKI, GREECE – A significant forest fire erupted in Halkidiki, Greece, on July 2, 2025, engulfing a hillside with towering flames and generating a massive plume of smoke visible from a considerable distance. Eyewitnesses from the nearby waters captured the dramatic scene, showing the rapid spread of the blaze through the dense vegetation. Emergency services were quickly deployed to combat the inferno. Footage from the scene shows firefighting aircraft, including a helicopter and a plane, actively engaged in aerial suppression efforts. These aircraft were observed repeatedly collecting water from the sea and releasing it over the burning areas in an attempt to contain the fire and prevent further devastation. The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire are currently under investigation.
