Sevilla, Spain – Rapper Mala Rodríguez, a contestant on the popular culinary competition 'MasterChef España,' recently shared a deeply personal story connecting her culinary creation to her roots in Sevilla. During a segment, Rodríguez presented her buñuelos, which she affectionately named 'San Julián.' She explained, "They are called San Julián because it's the neighborhood in Sevilla where I grew up, and there was a churrería there." This revelation offered a glimpse into her early life and the influences that shaped her. The conversation further delved into Rodríguez's past as she recounted working in a pastry shop at the age of 20. "Yes, but I was in customer service," she clarified, when asked by a judge if she had worked in a bakery or pastry shop. She continued to share a poignant moment from her career, stating, "When I discovered that they had edited my album in Los Angeles, which for me was like, 'ahhh,' I said, 'I'm going to throw sticks into the fire, man, there are things to do here.'" She expressed how the sudden onset of fame following her first album deeply "scared" her, prompting a temporary retreat from the music industry. Judges tasted her buñuelos, with one commenting on the dough's texture, noting, "The dough is well, the dough is well, it's just that it's so badly fried." Another judge observed, "This one isn't raw because it's very small and it's good." The interaction provided both culinary critique and a platform for Rodríguez to share her journey, resonating with both her personal history and her current culinary challenge.
