Mexico Sees Significant Drop in Homicides: 22 Fewer Daily Deaths
Mexico City, June 10, 2025 – President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a significant drop in daily homicides in Mexico. The number of daily intentional homicides decreased by 25.8% from September 2024 to May 2025, representing 22 fewer deaths per day. This achievement is attributed to the National Security Strategy's four key areas: addressing root causes through social programs; strengthening the National Guard and state police; improving investigation and intelligence; and enhancing coordination among security agencies. "This is a very important result of the Security Cabinet's work," Sheinbaum stated, emphasizing that the strategy is demonstrably effective. Further investigation is needed to analyze the long-term impact of these policies, but the initial results are promising. The decrease in homicides offers a glimmer of hope for improved public safety in Mexico.
