Petropavlovsk Hosts Regional Archery Tournament: Local Archer Eyes Gold at Nationals Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan – A regional archery tournament recently concluded in Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan, drawing 60 participants. The event showcased traditional Kazakh archery, with competitors ranging in age from 10 to 17. One notable participant, Zhayl Sahvanov, expressed his determination to win gold, stating, “This sport brings me pleasure; I love traditional archery, and this was a dream come true.” The tournament served as a qualifying round for the upcoming national championships. Zhasulan Gabbas, head of the North Kazakhstan Region Traditional Archery Federation, explained the process, saying, “Today we hold the selection, and on Monday we'll begin training camps to prepare for the Kazakhstan championship.” Gabbas noted that four different target styles were used: Kalkan, Puta, Central Asia, and Zhamby. The top archers will advance to the national competition in Petropavlovsk on July 19th. The tournament highlights the growing popularity of traditional archery in Kazakhstan and the dedication of young athletes pursuing their dreams.
