Kazakhstan's Tech Fights Counterfeit Drugs: App Verifies Authenticity
Kazakhstan's Drug Marking System: Combating Counterfeits and Ensuring Quality Kazakhstan implemented a mandatory drug marking system in 2024 to tackle the problem of counterfeit medications. This initiative aims to safeguard public health by ensuring the authenticity and quality of drugs available to consumers. The system utilizes a "Data Matrix" code on each drug package, allowing consumers to verify its authenticity using the "Naqty Onim" app. This technology allows for quick verification of the drug's origin and legitimacy. The North Kazakhstan region has actively embraced this system, with over 140 entities registering within the system. Ermurat Suraganov, Head of the Department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the North Kazakhstan region, stated, "The system enhances the quality of drugs and provides a reliable means of tracking them from production to the consumer." This initiative has streamlined the process of obtaining prescription medications, eliminating long queues experienced previously. Citizens interviewed expressed satisfaction with the system's efficiency and increased confidence in the quality of their medications. The system's success in the North Kazakhstan region serves as a model for other regions to improve drug control and public health.
