A resident of Mogilev, Belarus, recently fell victim to a sophisticated phone scam, losing over 25,000 rubles to fraudsters posing as Beltelecom and law enforcement officials. The scammers convinced the victim to hand over the money to a courier. Following an investigation by criminal investigators, the courier, identified as a resident of Bykhov, was apprehended and confessed to finding the job through an online advertisement. This individual now faces a potential prison sentence of up to 12 years for their involvement in the crime. In light of this incident, law enforcement officials are urging citizens to exercise extreme caution when engaging in financial transactions online and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the authorities. "We remind citizens to be vigilant and to avoid any financial transactions with unknown individuals contacted through messengers," stated a law enforcement official in a recent press release.
