Minsk Woman Loses 1400 Rubles in iPhone Scam
A resident of Minsk, Belarus, recently lost a significant sum of money to online scammers. The victim, a young woman, was attempting to purchase iPhones for herself and her boyfriend when she encountered an advertisement offering the devices at a heavily discounted price. After contacting the seller through a messaging app, she transferred 1400 rubles as a prepayment, as requested by the seller. However, after the payment was confirmed, the seller stopped responding to her messages and the promised delivery never materialized. The seller also deleted their messaging history. "I went to the bank, deposited the money into my account, and then paid through internet banking," the victim recounted. Local authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the fraud. This case highlights the ongoing issue of online scams and the importance of exercising caution when making online purchases.
