Discrepancies in Philippine Election Results Prompt Investigation, but Officials Assure Accuracy
Manila, Philippines—May 13, 2025. The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), a key election watchdog in the Philippines, reported discrepancies between its internal vote count and the official numbers released by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). This prompted concerns about the accuracy of the election results. However, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) quickly intervened, explaining that the discrepancies stemmed from data duplication during server consolidation. "Initial assessments suggest that while transmissions from thousands of precincts were duplicated during consolidation, it does not significantly affect the official results," said a DICT representative. PPCRV spokesperson Anna Singson added, "We have two strong audits in place, and we should continue to give emphasis and continued vigilance for those audits." The PPCRV is currently conducting a manual audit to reconcile the differences and ensure the integrity of the election results. This reassures the public that the final results will be accurate.
