EDSA Traffic Gridlock Continues Despite Suspension of Major Roadworks
Metro Manila Traffic Congestion Worsens Despite Suspension of Odd-Even Scheme and Road Rehabilitation Metro Manila, Philippines – June 1, 2025 – The suspension of the odd-even traffic scheme and road rehabilitation projects on Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) has failed to alleviate traffic congestion in the capital region. Instead, ongoing road reblocking projects have led to significant delays, particularly on Sunday, June 1, 2025. News5 aired a live report from EDSA in Mandaluyong City which showed vehicles at a standstill. "In this part of EDSA-Mandaluyong, the traffic is moving very slowly," reported Kari Cator, a News5 reporter on the scene. "Vehicles are piling up along all lanes, and we expect the situation to worsen as the day goes on, especially since it's a Sunday." The report also highlighted road closures in Quezon City due to road reblocking and repairs by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). These closures are expected to continue until June 2, 2025. The MMDA advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid the heavy traffic. Despite the suspension of major roadworks, the ongoing reblocking projects underscore the persistent challenges in managing traffic flow in Metro Manila. The MMDA's continued efforts to improve infrastructure and traffic management are crucial in addressing these ongoing issues.
