Godmother's Desperate Plea: Fighting for Guardianship of Abused Children After Mother's Felony Arrest in Georgia
Atlanta, GA – A Mississippi woman, Victoria, is publicly appealing for assistance in her legal fight to secure guardianship of her two godchildren, aged 8 and 10, following the arrest of their biological mother, Jordan, in Acworth, Georgia. Jordan, described as Victoria's best friend of 15 years, faces serious felony charges including child pornography with intent to distribute, as well as misdemeanor obstruction and child cruelty. Victoria explained that she became aware of the children's dire situation in late June/early July when the 10-year-old goddaughter reported abuse to another trusted adult. This led to the involvement of child protective services (DFCS). Jordan was initially arrested for shoplifting, and DFCS became involved due to her non-cooperation with police regarding the child's interviews. Following her initial arrest, Jordan was later indicted on three felony charges related to child pornography, with another indictment pending. Victoria, who has been a part of the children's lives since their conception, immediately drove from North Mississippi to Georgia to intervene. She was granted power of attorney, allowing her to care for the children, but is now seeking full legal guardianship. She faces significant financial and logistical challenges, working full-time and unable to afford legal representation in both Georgia and Mississippi. "I don't have money for an attorney," Victoria stated, highlighting that all expenses for the children's care, including food, clothes, and medical needs, come out of her pocket. She is working to get them on Medicaid, but fears they could enter the foster care system if she cannot secure guardianship. "I love these kids more than I love anybody else on the face of this planet, including myself. I would die for these kids," she passionately declared, underscoring the severe trauma and neglect the children have endured.
