
Ghana-SEDA Africa Partnership to Transform Water Management
Ghana and SEDA Africa Partner to Modernize Water Sector Accra, Ghana – In a significant step towards improving water resource management, the Ghanaian government and SEDA Africa signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on June 05, 2025. The agreement centers on bolstering technical cooperation within the water sector. The MoU aims to modernize groundwater mapping and monitoring systems, a crucial step given the challenges of drought and climate stress in various regions. The collaboration also seeks to enhance the technical capacity of Ghanaian hydrologists and engineers. Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Minister of Works, Housing, and Water Resources, emphasized the importance of this partnership: "This data will support better planning, drilling efficiency, and protection of critical underground water resources." He underscored the need for sustainable water access, especially in drought-prone areas. Martin Habart, CEO of SEDA Africa, highlighted the multifaceted challenges of water resource degradation caused by mining, climate change, and rapid urbanization. He stressed the importance of integrated solutions and the establishment of a technical task force to support key agencies like the Ghana Water Company Limited. The MoU signing ceremony showcased the commitment of both parties to improve Ghana's water infrastructure and ensure lasting water access for all citizens. This cooperation marks a significant step toward a more sustainable and resilient water future for Ghana.
