Woman Apprehended Attempting to Smuggle Drugs in Peanuts into Tumbes Prison

TUMBES, Peru – Prison security personnel at the Puerto Pizarro penitentiary in Tumbes successfully intercepted a woman attempting to smuggle illicit substances into the facility. The incident occurred when staff discovered drugs, believed to be marijuana, cleverly concealed within candied peanuts. The woman, identified as Yanet Carbajal, was apprehended during a routine inspection. Authorities reported that 65 units of the prohibited substance were found hidden in three bags of peanuts. Following her detention, Ms. Carbajal was transferred to the Jorge Taipe Tarazona Police Complex, where she will remain for a period of 15 days as investigations continue.
