University Students Occupy Campus in Lima Over Registration System Failures
LIMA, Peru – Students at the Federico Villarreal National University (UNFV) have taken control of a campus building in downtown Lima to protest ongoing issues with the university's registration system. The occupation, which began Thursday night, highlights deep frustration among students who report being unable to officially enroll for the current semester, despite it nearing its conclusion. One student, speaking to reporters, stated, "We are already finishing the first semester and we are not registered. We are invisible to SUNEDU!" Another female student emphasized the critical impact on scholarship recipients: "For Pronabec, it is a requirement within the permanent scholarship, Beca 18, that they must present. Without that, they don't pay them." Students claim they have repeatedly attempted to address the problem with university authorities through various protests and visits to administrative offices, but have received no concrete solutions. "The authorities are passing the buck," one student commented, "There is no clear answer as to when registration will be." Police forces were deployed to guard the university's access points following the student takeover. The Faculty of Humanities is reportedly the most affected by the registration system's deficiencies.
