Tomás Gálvez Reinstated as Supreme Prosecutor Amidst Public Ministry Changes
Lima, Peru – Tomás Gálvez has been officially reincorporated as a Supreme Prosecutor within the Public Ministry, a decision that follows the rehabilitation of his title by the National Justice Board (JNJ) on June 16. This move comes after Gálvez was dismissed in 2021 due to alleged connections with the 'White Collars of the Port' network. Upon his reincorporation, Gálvez stated, 'I am just reincorporating myself. I will see the office, I will see what we can do.' He added that he holds no specific expectations regarding a meeting with the Public Ministry's head, saying, 'If she attends to me, we will converse functionally, and that's all.' With Gálvez's return, the number of titular Supreme Prosecutors now stands at five. The reincorporated prosecutor noted that two vacant positions remain, with one potentially being filled by Patricia Benavides. Gálvez emphasized the need for the Public Ministry to allocate budget for these newly created positions to incorporate the remaining Supreme Prosecutors. Gálvez's previous dismissal in 2021 by the JNJ was linked to his alleged involvement with the 'White Collars of the Port' network. Audio recordings from the case reportedly reveal conversations between Gálvez and former judge César Hinostroza.
