Minsk Introduces New E-Scooter Speed Zones for Enhanced Safety
Minsk Implements New E-Scooter Speed Limits to Enhance Safety Minsk, Belarus – In a move to prioritize pedestrian and e-scooter rider safety, Minsk city authorities have introduced a tiered speed limit system for electric scooters. These new regulations, effective immediately, vary based on location and risk levels. Within the city's first ring road, e-scooter riders are limited to a maximum speed of 15 kilometers per hour (km/h). This speed restriction is further reduced to 17 km/h within the second ring road. For areas outside the MKAD (Minsk Ring Road), the speed limit is set at 20 km/h. However, the city has identified 200 areas deemed high-risk due to pedestrian traffic and potential hazards. In these locations, e-scooter speeds are strictly limited to a mere 7 km/h. These areas include the vicinity of educational institutions, parks, and metro stations. "The implementation of these speed limits is a crucial step in enhancing safety for both e-scooter riders and pedestrians," stated a spokesperson for the Minsk traffic police. "We urge all users to adhere to these regulations and prioritize safe riding practices." The new regulations are expected to reduce accidents and promote a more harmonious coexistence between e-scooter users and pedestrians in Minsk. The city's traffic police will be actively enforcing these new rules.
