Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Rahmat Fitri Abdullah, an esteemed Anti-Scam Ambassador for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and a certified HRDC Trainer, recently delivered a crucial public lecture highlighting the insidious methods employed by scammers to infiltrate personal mobile devices. The session, aimed at bolstering public awareness and digital security, provided practical advice on safeguarding one's digital footprint. Abdullah underscored that the internet remains the primary conduit for scammers. "If you ever feel your phone's security is compromised, the immediate action is to quickly disable your internet connection," he advised, emphasizing the urgency of such a response. He elaborated on the sophisticated nature of data retrieval, warning attendees, "Simply deleting files is insufficient. When selling an old phone, it is imperative to perform a full factory reset or reformat to ensure all personal data is truly erased, otherwise, the new owner could potentially recover your information." Further expanding on best practices, Abdullah cautioned against the pervasive threat of malicious links. "Never click on any suspicious links," he stated firmly, a common vector for malware and phishing attempts. He also offered a less conventional but highly practical piece of advice: "When you go to sleep, always turn off your internet and Bluetooth. This is often the time when scammers attempt to gain access, as people are less vigilant." The lecture concluded with a strong warning about public Wi-Fi networks. "Free Wi-Fi is not always safe Wi-Fi," Abdullah explained. "You can never be certain about the security protocols of public networks, making them an easy target for malicious actors." His insights serve as a vital reminder for individuals to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting their digital lives.
