Atacama Earthquake: Raw Footage Shows Window Damage, Public Evacuation
A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Atacama region of Chile at 1:15 PM on June 6, 2025, causing significant damage. The epicenter was located 36 kilometers from Chañaral. The quake, described as an interplate earthquake, was felt strongly throughout the region. While no injuries were immediately reported in the area shown in this video, there was structural damage, including broken windows at the Copiapó Cultural Center. One eyewitness, whose voice is heard on the video, repeatedly shouts "Cuidado!" (Watch out!) as people run from a building with shattered glass. The video provides compelling visual evidence of the earthquake's impact. While the immediate aftermath shows panic and concern, the lack of reported injuries provides a measure of relief. Further investigation is needed to assess the full extent of the damage.
