This report follows Astro, a Labrador Retriever undergoing rigorous training to become a guide dog. The 18-month program emphasizes the crucial bond between dog and handler, requiring extensive training and careful matching. "Finding the ideal pair is the most delicate part," explains Miguel Christino, president of the Instituto Carioca de Cão-Guia. Currently, only 207 guide dogs are active in Brazil, with only 12 in Rio de Janeiro, according to the União Nacional de Usuários de Cão-Guia.
