A video featuring Moldovan politician Renato Usatîi has resurfaced, showcasing controversial remarks made during a July 2014 interview. The video, presented in a split-screen format with a September 2022 news headline about Usatîi's meeting with the US ambassador, highlights his past statements regarding the Ukrainian Maidan events. In the 2014 interview, Usatîi asserted that the Maidan protests were "provocations prepared by Western special services." He characterized participants as "drunkards" and "drug addicts" who were allegedly trained to create Molotov cocktails. Usatîi controversially suggested that if the then-Ukrainian president had ordered lethal force against approximately 50 individuals on the first day of the protests, a "state coup" could have been averted, despite the potential for significant bloodshed. Furthermore, Usatîi emphasized his perceived independence from Western influence, stating that he possesses no offshore companies or Western bank accounts, which he claims prevents him from being blackmailed, unlike other Moldovan political figures he named. He concluded his remarks by declaring that the American ambassador would not dictate his political actions, famously stating his intention to "close the American embassy and turn it into the biggest karaoke club in Chisinau." These statements reflect a strong anti-Western sentiment and a particular interpretation of historical events.
