Chisinau, Moldova – A prominent political analyst has alleged that Moldovan authorities, specifically the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and President Maia Sandu, are implementing strategies to disenfranchise Moldovan citizens residing in Russia ahead of the 2025 elections. The analyst, who presented his views in a recent online video, highlighted concerns over the fairness of the electoral process for the diaspora. According to the analyst, during previous presidential elections, only two polling stations were opened in Russia, both in Moscow, allowing approximately 10,000 Moldovans to vote, despite an estimated 300,000 Moldovans living in the country. In contrast, other European nations like Italy had 60 polling stations, Germany 26, France 20, and the UK, USA, and Romania each had 16. The analyst claims that the total number of diaspora votes in previous elections was around 328,000, with less than 3% coming from Russia. The video further suggests that recent diplomatic tensions, including Moldova's expulsion of three Russian diplomats on March 31, 2025, and Russia's reciprocal action on April 4, 2025, are part of a calculated effort. Additionally, a travel warning issued by Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 3, 2025, advising Moldovan citizens against non-essential travel to Russia, is cited as contributing to an environment where opening sufficient polling stations in Russia would be deemed 'unsafe' or 'impossible' due to a lack of diplomatic staff. “PAS and Sandu cannot win honestly,” the analyst stated. “Therefore, political provocations and diplomatic conflicts are being orchestrated to deprive hundreds of thousands of citizens living in Russia of their right to vote.” The analyst concluded that these actions represent a manipulation of the electoral process rather than genuine democratic practice.
