New QR Code System Introduced in Belarusian Supermarkets
Slutsk, Belarus – A new system requiring customers to scan both barcodes and DataMatrix QR codes at self-checkout kiosks has been introduced in Belarusian supermarkets. The change, initially reported in Minsk in February, is now being implemented in other cities like Slutsk, starting with grocery items such as beverages, beer, and tobacco. One store employee stated, "Yes, for now, it's mainly for these products, but we expect all product categories to be included eventually." The DataMatrix code acts as a digital product passport, containing information about the product's origin, production date, and expiry date. This initiative aims to combat the sale of low-quality goods and increase consumer transparency. The successful implementation of this system could improve product traceability and consumer confidence in the Belarusian market.
